Pre-finished Hardwoods

What is pre-finished flooring?

Pre-finished flooring is flooring that has the finish applied at the factory.  What that means for the residential customer is no sanding in the home!  It also means that the total job time is cut in half and the overall price is about the same as a site-finished floor (or lower!)

What's the difference between engineered, solid-plank and laminate flooring?

Engineered flooring has a think strip of real wood as the top layer, glued to a plywood substrate.  This ensures the look, feel and wear-ability of real wood.  Engineered flooring typically cost a little less and can be readily glued down but usually doesn't have the same long life as solid plank flooring.

Solid plank flooring is milled from 100% real wood.  Typically milled to 3/4" thickness but also available in 1/2" and 5/8" thick.  You can expect 3/4" solid plank flooring to last 100 years or more!

Laminate is just a picture of wood glued to a plywood substrate.  Usually it is very tough, and very cheap, but it's not like real wood at all.  I've never seen a laminate floor that could actually pass for the look of real wood.

Beauty & Variety;

     The controlled manufacturing environment ensures stains and finishes are applied true and evenly.   The stains are rich in color and evenly applied.  The thick, lustrous finished are uniform in appearance and thickness throughout the entire flooring batch.  Pre-finished flooring simply looks great!

     Pre-finished flooring comes in a dazzling array of species, widths, and thicknesses to choose from.  From you standard oak that is 3/4" x 2 1/4" with a clear finish to an imported carbonized bamboo that's 5/8" x 5" to an engineered plank that's 3/8" x 6" with almost any stain you can imagine.  There is a pre-finished flooring to match any style and decor.

Durability & Warranty;

     Pre-finished flooring is covered at the factory where conditions can be controls precisely.  This lends a huge advantage in ability to apply multiply layer finished and special additive finishes.  Site-finished flooring simply can't compete with the durability that can be achieved in a controlled environment.

     Pre-finished flooring has excellent warranties!  The factory finished are so tough that most warranties are 15 to 25 years on the ware-through warranty with a life-time warranty on the flooring itself (depending on manufacturer and style)!  That's durability that you can count on!

Installation: Speed, Flexibility, Cleanliness;

     Because there is not additional time needed for sanding and finishing, the overall project time is cut in half!  We're well aware that installing flooring can be a huge disruption to households.  The sooner we can get in and get out of your way, the faster you can get your lives back to normal.  Also, when sanding and finishing in the house there is a period of time where the polyurethane or low VOC water-borne finish will smell bad.  Not to mention the time where you can't walk on the floor while the finish dries.  Both these problems are eliminated completely with the pre-finished!

     Pre-finished flooring can be installed over any kind of sub-floor.  Weather you are nailing down over plywood or OSB board, gluing down over plywood or concrete slab, gluing down over plywood, or installing a floating floor system over an uneven sub-floor such as brick or old stone.  Whatever you individual needs or particular sub-floor, there is a solution provided with pre-finished flooring.

     With  pre-finished flooring there is no sanding involved and no  dust to worry about!  We simply install the floor and walk away from the house!  It's an especially great choice for residents with allergies or asthma concerns, where even small amounts of fine dust might cause a concern.

Ease of Maintenance;

     Pre-finished flooring is very easy to keep clean and maintain.  Simply sprits on a  hardwood flooring cleaning solution and wipe clean once a week or so.  This keeps dirt off the floor, which can act like sand paper; grinding down into the finish and wearing your flooring out.

Price;

     Overall, the price of covering a floor with pre-finished flooring is cheaper than site-finished flooring, depending on overall scope of work.  The flooring itself will cost a little more, but you save quite a bit on labor.
